The Alwoodley Golf Club
Visitor Newsletter
September, 2021

Dear Sir/Madam

With the first signs of Autumn beginning to appear, it is time to bring you up to date on a successful summer season at Alwoodley.

Thank you to all of you who have visited us during the last few months.  The sense of a return to normality has been palpable around the club and it has been clear to see the enjoyment a round of golf brings to members and visitors alike.

We were unfortunate to lose The Open Regional Qualifying and The European Ladies Strokeplay Championship, both due to Covid restrictions, but we still hosted several golf days and open competitions as well as The Yorkshire Amateur Championship at the beginning of September.  Congratulations go to Josh Berry from Doncaster Golf Club who produced rounds of 73, 72, 71 & 74 to clinch the title by 1 shot from Charlie Daughtry.

A vote of thanks should go to the Club’s new food & beverage team lead by Claire Smith.  In what has been a difficult year generally for hospitality, Claire and her team have coped admirably and have set increased standards of service in the Clubhouse that have received favourable feedback.  There are plans in place for a new range of set menus and dining options for members and visitors in 2022.

Next month sees the start of the irrigation replacement project for Alwoodley.  All 18 greens and surrounds will be fitted with a new irrigation system to allow for improved turf conditions.  The project will run into the early part of next year and whilst there will be some minor disruption to play in some winter months, this will be kept to a minimum.  We are still finalising our plans for visitor bookings during this forthcoming period however it’ hoped we will have occasional limited availability for non-members with the club keeping the winter green fee rate as per last year at £75 per player.  If you are interested in playing, please call us and we’ll do our best to advise accordingly.  We’ll be keeping you up to date with the progress of the work through regular communications.

Moving into next year, we have a range of opportunities to continue enjoying visits to Alwoodley.  These include casual green feesOpen competitions, the Yorkshire Am-Am and our Stay & Play package with Moortown golf club to name but a few.  New for 2022 we also have a Stay & Play package with Ganton Golf Club as well as a 2-day event with Hollinwell Golf Club.  For more information on any of these options, please register your interest by clicking here.

In conclusion, Alwoodley has chosen to support the MND charity in 2021 with the club hosting a golf day on Thursday 7th October.  To learn more about this event and the positive work being carried out by the MND charity, please click here.

I wish you all an enjoyable end to the golfing season and here’s hoping the winter will be kind to us.
