The cream of European amateur women’s golf will compete at Alwoodley this summer.

The European Ladies Amateur Championship runs from July 21 to 24 and is a 72-hole strokeplay event.

First competed for in 1986, Alwoodley is only the third English club to host the tournament, after Formby in 1997 and Parkstone two years ago.

Alice Hewson Alwoodley in 2021

On that occasion, the winner was Alice Hewson, who has since turned professional and now plays on the Ladies’ European Tour.

It is a fantastic opportunity to watch some stars of the future and witness the latest chapter of Alwoodley’s long legacy in supporting the women’s game and hosting high-calibre championships.

At the end of August, it will be the men’s turn to take centre stage as the Yorkshire Amateur returns to Alwoodley. Perhaps there will even be some home interest to support in the shape of one or more of the club’s low handicappers.

Claret Jug Alwoodley in 2021

We would normally be preparing to host Regional Open Qualifying in June, but the R&A have changed the qualifying system for this year only due to Covid. We look forward to this event returning in 2022.

It’s also a busy season at club level with several open days and events:

  • The Yorkshire Am Am Series takes place over three days at Alwoodley, Fulford and Moortown from Wednesday May 12 to Friday May 14. The cost is only £825 per team of four and you can enter here.
  • The Mizuno Golf Pairs comes to Alwoodley on Friday July 30.
  • The Winter Series 2021/22
  • There are still some Open Day places remaining in our Mixed Open in September

For those simply wishing to enjoy a game at Alwoodley, our green fees are £125 per round and you can play on any day except Saturdays.

For further information on all of the above events, and to download entry forms for our Open events, go to the Visitors section.
